Complexity for complexity’s sake

Complexity for complexity’s sake is something we see a lot at PTD Ninja.

In an ideal world we would want to find the simplest and most effective way to solve the problems and over come the barriers of our clients.

The thing is, It’s all too easy to overcomplicate & add complexity to your business and processes We see this daily with our clients when it comes to setting up PT Distinction to deliver their online personal training services.

The problem, humans naturally seek complexity.

We seem to think that the simple answer can’t possibly solve the problem and there must be more value in the complex answer.

This instinctive assumption couldn’t be further from the truth and can lead to big issues in your business and for your clients.

The main issue is that the more complex something is the more effort is required to make it consistently work effectively. Leading to the ‘system’ to break down more often, and not get the results intended.

We see this in businesses with over complicated systems, packages and offers.

We see this in the results of the clients of the personal trainers who overload their clients with too much information and tasks at once.

The more complex, the harder and less likely it is they will get a positive outcome.

So how do you make the seemingly complicated, uncompleted?

We use Occam’s razor.

Occam’s razor suggests that the simplest solution or explanation is usually the correct one.

We simplify the process as much as possible and test that against known data to see if the outcome is the same. 

If it is, we go with it.

Next time you add in a new system to your business, whether that’s in your program or behind the scenes, ask yourself is this the simplest way I can do this?
